As a society, we have now started to wake up to the idea that the more you put into birth the more you get out. It’s clear from the amount of prenatal services you can buy – hypnobirthing, pregnancy yoga and pregnancy reiki all aim to empower and provide support to expectant parents. In my opinion this has transformed the birth experience for many women for the better and long may it continue.

Whether you are wanting to become pregnant, already pregnant or have just had a baby, Reiki is one of the most gentle and healing treatments around. In this article I’ll give a little background into what Reiki is and how it can help you no matter what stage of the birth journey you are at.
So what is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” which means a practitioner will place their hands directly above certain parts of your body – usually the 7 chakras. It is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
